Blog: ‘College GameDay’ coming to Athens for Georgia-LSU

ESPN’s “College GameDay” will originate from Athens on Saturday for the first time since 2008.

The Georgia-LSU top-10 matchup puts the Bulldogs in the national spotlight again for another showcase game. Athens was announced as the site late Saturday night on the show’s Twitter feed.

Georgia is 3-12 all-time in games when it is the featured matchup for the popular preview program.

Georgia’s game at Clemson also was the site on the opening weekend for the show hosted by Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and former Bulldog David Pollack.

The last time “College GameDay” was in Athens was for the blackout game against Alabama on Sept. 22, 2007, a 41-30 Crimson Tide win. Its only other previous visit to Athens was in 1998 against Tennessee, a 22-7 Georgia loss.

“Next week could not got any better for me,” tweeted Pollack, the former Georgia All-American defensive end, who lives in the area. “Thursday night game at Georgia Tech & GameDay at Georgia. How sweet it is.”
