BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Georgia volleyball team was picked by the league’s coaches to finish fifth in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division.
Georgia, which returns 10 players from a team that went 11-19 overall and 7-13 in the SEC last season, received 56 points in the poll of the 13 SEC coaches.
Tennessee was picked to win the league title, receiving 12 of the possible 13 votes. Florida picked up the other first-place vote.
Points were compiled on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 basis for the Western Division and 1-2-3-4-5-6 for the Eastern Division. Each coach is not allowed to vote for his or her own team and each coach also voted for one team as an overall conference champion.
The 2012 Preseason All-SEC team will be announced on today and the 2012 season kicks off on Aug. 24, when Georgia takes on Georgia Southern at 7 p.m., in the Ramsey Student Center.
