The new “Transformers” movie may have been the nation’s box office king during the July 4th weekend, but the film that many in the Bulldog Nation had been waiting for debuted on the Internet on Saturday.
Georgia rising senior wide receiver Chris Conley unveiled his Star Wars fan film “Retribution: Darkness Falls,” on YouTube and Vimeo.
Take a look at the film above.
The film includes scenes shot in Sanford Stadium and the Tate Student Center as a backdrop and there is a mention of the “battle of Snelling” and of “jean shorts,” a veiled shot at those Florida Gators.
Conley directed and wrote the film and has a starring role in it. He shows he has hands not only for snatching passes but swinging a lightsaber. Also in the film: star running back Chris Conley, Georgia coach Mark Richt and Hairy Dawg.
Conley tweeted on Sunday: “Thank you all for the support of Retribution! We had a blast making it. There is more to come.” Retribution checks in at more than 26 minutes.
Conley, active nationally and at Georgia on student-athlete issues, continues to show he’s about much more than simply a ball player.
He grew up a Star Wars fan.
“My brother and I got into the games and into the some of the Star Wars history outside of the movies and I’ve just been a fan of it ever since,” Conley told the Athens Banner-Herald before filming began. “I’ve been a big guy who prides myself on remaining who I am regardless of who I’m around or how old I get. It’s something that I like and regardless of what people tell me, if it’s frowned upon or not. It’s me.”
