Bulldogs soccer team hands out annual awards; Baker named MVP

The Georgia soccer team recognized the accomplishments of its 2012 season at its annual awards banquet on Friday, including the presentation of nine annual team awards.

Awards handed out by coach Steve Holeman and his staff included:

Heart & Soul: Susannah Dennis

Sportsmanship: Callie Corbin Langford

Coaches Award: Kathleen Eastman

Most Improved: Emma Sonnett

Offensive MVP: Nicole Locandro

Defensive MVP: Torri Allen

Overall MVP: Ashley Baker

Rookie of the Year: Bella Hartley

George Abney Booster of the Year: Raegan Harvey

Additionally, the team celebrated the recognition it received during the 2012 season, including a first team All-SEC and All-South Region nod for Allen, a 10th consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award, 14 players named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll and 18 players on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

The Bulldogs opened their spring exhibition season Saturday night, posting a 2-0 win over Clemson at home. The squad is next in action March 28 when it plays Auburn at 7 p.m. in Norcross.
