Bulldogs sit in third heading into final round at Augusta State Invitational

The 12th-ranked Georgia men’s golf team stands third after two rounds of the Augusta State Invitational.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs posted rounds of 7-over 295 and 3-under 285 at Forest Hills Golf Club for a total of 4-over 580. Georgia is four shots behind host Augusta State.

Senior T.J. Mitchell paced the Bulldogs at 3-under 141, including a second-round 5-under 67. He is in fifth individually, just one stroke behind a 4-way tie for first. Junior Keith Mitchell is 11th at 1-under 143, followed by sophomore Nicholas Reach in 19th at 2-over 146, freshman Lee McCoy at 6-over 150 and junior Michael Cromie at 10-over 154.

“We really needed the second-round turnaround that we got,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “We worked our way back into the hunt. We’ve got a chance, and that’s all you can ever ask for as a coach. It’s still anyone’s tournament, so we have to come out extremely focused on Sunday.”

The Augusta State Invitational will conclude today.
