Bulldogs signee Atkins not academically qualified, will enroll at prep school

A second member of Georgia’s 19-player signing class will have to delay his arrival at Georgia.

Defensive line signee John Atkins from Thomson High did not qualify academically after getting final word back this week from the NCAA clearinghouse. Atkins took the ACT last month in hopes of qualifying.

He plans to attend prep school at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia this fall, he confirmed Friday evening, with hopes of being able to enroll at Georgia in January.

Another Georgia signee, linebacker Leonard Floyd from Dodge County, also plans to go to Hargrave with an eye on getting to Georgia this winter.

Georgia’s other 17 signees are already on campus.
