Bulldogs earn fourth win over ranked opponent

Georgia’s softball captured its fourth win over a ranked team with a 3-1 win over No. 24 USC Upstate (36-4).

The 13th-ranked Bulldogs (34-6) took a 1-0 lead in the third innings when Kaylee Puailpa hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Niaja Griffin to score.

Alex Hugo hit a two-run homerun in the fifth inning to extend the Bulldogs’ lead. Hugo leads the NCAA with 16 home runs on the year.

USC Upstate’s lone run came in the seventh inning when Kendall Settlemyer hit a solo home run.

Geri Ann Glasco (14-2) pitched four innings for Georgia with two hits and five strikeouts.

Chelsea Wilkinson threw the final two innings for Georgia and collected her third save of the season. Georgia will open its series against LSU in Baton Rouge, La. at 7 p.m. Friday.
