Backup quarterbacks have rough scrimmage

The No. 2 quarterback job behind Hutson Mason didn’t appear to get any clearer after Saturday.

Redshirt sophomore Faton Bauta completed 2 of 11 passes for 20 yards with an interception. Redshirt freshman Brice Ramsey was also 2 of 11 for 41 yards.

“They are fighting for No. 2, in my opinion, right now,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “Faton and Brice are battling it out.”

Early enrollee Jacob Park was 1 of 7 for 11 yards.

“There were some nice throws made by some of the young guys,” Richt said. “Just a lot of dropped balls and it seemed like in key situations to keep drives going.”

Richt said wide receivers, fullbacks and tight ends all had drops.

The No. 1 offense went against the No. 1 defense.

Receiver Chris Conley said that some of the backup quarterbacks got first-team reps with him.

He was impressed with Ramsey’s “cannon” of an arm and that the mobile Bauta wanted to play in a regular jersey and have contact.
