They are actually holding a spring football practice today at Georgia.
The team is out there for the first of 15 practices with temperatures in the lower 50s.
Yes, safety Tray Matthews, defensive end James DeLoach, defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor and receiver Uriah LeMay are out there going through drills after being booked Monday night and posting bond on their check cashing arrests.
Tailback Todd Gurley is out there practicing full-go from what I can tell. He doesn’t look slowed down by sore legs, ankle or hip during this non-contact practice.
Two players coming back from ACL surgery are also out there in green jerseys.
Malcolm Mitchell is catching passes. Keith Marshall is working with the tailbacks.
You can see video of Gurley and Marshall above. Once again, Georgia is asking us to take out the audio of practice. So it’s silent movie time!
Also in green: tight end Jay Rome (foot, not practicing) and cornerback Reggie Wilkerson (knee, going through drills).
It’s the first day on the field for new defensive coaches Jeremy Pruitt, Tracy Rocker, Kevin Sherrer and Mike Ekeler.
Pruitt, the new DC, was quite animated telling his players in a drill “to keep your hands up, keep your hands up,” and then took off his cap to make his point and told them they would repeat the drill.
“That’s how we’re going to play!” he yelled.
Pruitt might have used some R rated language along the way but this is a PG-13 blog.
Soon after he came with some praise: “That’s better! That’s better! That’s how it’s supposed to be.”
One position shift: sophomore Johnny O’Neal worked with the outside linebackers instead of on the inside.
The starting offensive line that I saw: Left tackle John Theus, left guard Mark Beard, center Hunter Long, right guard Brandon Kublanow and right tackle Kolton Houston. Not sure where center David Andrews was.
